Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research Chennai
Overview of Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research
The Indira Gandhi Atomic Research Center is one of the main nuclear research centers in India. It was established in Kalpakkam, Chennai for research and development of rapid breeding technology in 1971 AD. Its abbreviation is the Indira Gandhi Atomic Research Center. IGCAR designed a fast breeder technology reactor FBTR, which uses native mixed fuel with plutonium and natural uranium radish. This research center also developed the country's first neutron reactor, 'Kamini'. Dhruv, Apsara and Cyrus are used in the preparation of radioelectric ecosystems, as well as in research, basic and practical research and training in technologies and atomic materials. India is the seventh and the first developing country in the world with excellent breeding technology for fast breeders.
Objective of IGCAR
The main objective of establishing in the country the sodium-cooled fast breeder reactor (FBR) and the associated technology of the fuel cycle facilities is to carry out a program of scientific research and development of engineering progress of a wide range of flows scientists. Under this campaign, F.B.R. For the development of innovative and advanced substances, techniques, systems and systems, achieve and apply the successes of the original research in the technology of fast reactors.
Attributes of IGCAR
The Indira Gandhi Atomic Research Center is working with an innovative work of technological development to solve special types of problems created in important institutions such as security, space and other industries of India through its experts and resources. Center, Indian Institute of Technology, Indian Institute of Science, Pilani, Regional School of Engineering, National Research Laboratories, Public and Foreign Institutions, such as obtaining support from academic and R & D institutions.
There is a state-of-the-art library in the center, where there are 62,000 books available, 28,400 old volumes, approximately 785 journals and 1.95 records of different topics according to the technical demands of scientists and engineers. Completely modern machines have been made available in the Central Workshop, through which excellent components are built. Facilities such as the Silicon Graphics Power Challenge L server, SGI Work Station, 8 Noded Gion have been provided to meet the demands of the data center. There are a total of 2816 employees at the center, of which 1274 are engineers and scientists. The total annual expenditure of the R & D activities and projects of the Center is Rs. 670 lakhs.
