The Somnath sanctuary situated in Prabhas Patan close Veraval in Saurashtra on the western shore of Gujarat, is accepted to be the first among the twelve jyotirlinga holy places of Shiva. It is a critical journey and traveler spot of Gujarat. Recreated a few times in the past after rehashed decimation by a few Muslim intruders and Portuguese, the present sanctuary was remade in Chaulukya style of Hindu sanctuary engineering and finished in May 1951. The recreation was finished by Vallabhbhai Patel.
