The town takes its name from Kalika maa the decision divinity. Kalka was obtained by British India from the Princely province of Patiala in 1843 as a stop for Simla, the late spring capital of the Raj. It turned into the intersection for the Delhi-Panipat-Ambala-Kalka, and the Kalka - Shimla railroads. By 1901, the town, directed as a told region, had a populace of 7,045, a railroad workshop, and was a business opportunity for ginger and turmeric. The Kalka civil board was made on 11 April 1933.
