Narasimha Varman (first), son of Mahendravarman, built this while constructing Mahabalipuram in the middle of the seventh century. It was a fully developed city in the reign of the Pallava dynasty situated on the banks of the Bay of Bengal in the south, 45 km from Chennai. It was the famous harbor around the first century AD. In 600-800 AD, Pallava ruler made it his business port. At that time, the harbor was in excellent condition. From this harbor, precious stone, mung-pearl, gem-ruby etc. were sent to foreigners.
