You do not need to be an athlete to complete this trek, but good basic fitness makes the walk enjoyable.
Cardio: You should be able to run or jog 5 km in 30 to 35 minutes without stopping.
Daily Workouts: Practice brisk walking, cycling, or climbing stairs for 30–45 minutes daily.
Leg Strength: Practice bodyweight squats, lunges, and calf raises to prepare your legs for uphill trails and downhills.
At higher altitudes, oxygen levels drop. We take altitude safety very seriously to prevent AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness).
How We Prevent AMS:
Gradual Ascent: Our 5-day route rises slowly to give your body time to adjust to high altitude.
Hydration Rule: Drink at least 3 to 4 liters of water every day on the trail.
Pace Yourself: Walk at a slow, steady rhythm ("the mountain walk") without rushing.
Symptoms to Watch Out For:
Mild headache
Nausea or loss of appetite
Dizziness or feeling unusually tired
Our On-Trail Safety Equipment:
Daily Health Checks: Our guides check your pulse and oxygen levels twice a day using pulse oximeters.
Oxygen Support: We carry portable oxygen cylinders on every trek for quick relief if anyone feels unwell.
Certified Guides: All trek leaders are trained in wilderness first aid and CPR.
Your safety is backed by a clear medical plan at every step of the journey:
Immediate Descent: If anyone shows signs of severe mountain sickness or physical injury, our trained staff immediately guides them down to a lower altitude (the safest solution for AMS).
Nearest Hospital: Joshimath has fully equipped medical centers and hospitals just an hour away from the trek base point.
Helicopter Support: In rare emergency cases, fast air evacuation support can be arranged from Joshimath or nearby helipads to major medical facilities.
